تناول هذا البحث الاغتراب فى مسرح صلاح عبد السيد، وتحديداً فى مسرحيته "يا آل عبس". ومشکلة البحث تتمحور فى السؤال التالى: ما مدى وجود الاغتراب فى مسرح  صلاح عبد السيد وکيف تناوله؟، وقد طرح البحث عدة تساؤلات لعل أهمها: ما الأسباب والدوافع التى جعلت صلاح عبد السيد أن يتناول "الإغتراب بهذا الشکل الواسع" فى مسرحيته "يا آل عبس"؟، وما القضايا والمشکلات التى أراد طرحها من خلال مسرحيته هذه؟، وترجع أهمية البحث إلى أنه  يتناول إشکالية حيوية وخطيرة وهى ظاهرة الإغتراب، وخطورتها على المجتمع الذى تنشأ فيه، وهذه الخطورة تشمل کافة النواحي النفسية، والصحية، والاقتصادية، والاجتماعية، والأمنية أيضًا. ويهدف البحث إلى التعرف على اتجاهات صلاح عبد السيد فى تناوله للإغتراب فى مسرحيته، والتعرف على أهم القضايا والمشکلات التى أراد طرحها من خلال تناوله للإغتراب فى مسرحيته،والتعرف على الآثار المترتبة على الإغتراب کما تعکسها المسرحية عينة الدراسة. وقد اعتمدت الباحثة على تحليل المضمون فى بحثها هذا، واختارت بطريقة عمدية مسرحية "يا آل عبس".
وقد خرجت الباحثة بعدة نتائج من أهمها: أن هذه المسرحية تريد أن تقول للقائمين على حکم البلاد: إن حريتکم مقرونة بحرية رعاياکم الذين تحکمونهم، وأن اغتراب فکرى –بطل هذه المسرحية- وصل إلى حد الجنون؛ وسبب اغترابه هو أنه کان قد شارک فى حرب أکتوبر 1973م، ونجح مع رفقاء السلاح فى تحقيق انتصار عظيم على العدو الإسرائيلى، ولکنهم لم يجنوا ثمار هذا النصر الکبير. وقد عمدت السلطة الحاکمة على تعميق الاغتراب عند فکرى حتى تقضى عليه نهائياً، کما يظهر الاغتراب واضحًا على شخصية "زکرى"، ويظهر کذلک على حاکم البلاد، وعلى شکرى الهلباوى، وعلى الأب حداد. والاغتراب فى هذه المسرحية يُعد من أقسى أنواع الاغتراب؛ لأنه اغتراب داخل الوطن. وقد استخدم المؤلف فى بنائه الدرامى لمسرحيته أسلوب مسرح الإسقاط السياسى.
